Another slight delay on this one.. summer winding down, Labor Day weekend, usual seasonal busy-ness. Schools here in Boise actually started back on August 12(!), so the schedule transitions are in full effect.
I did a couple sort-of mid-year “Best of” videos, based on comments and requests.
Ratings and rankings aren’t really my thing, so that’s part of the reason for separating into two separate videos. I branch off, diverge, maybe discuss some related “not-best” shoes, and also answer questions throughout.
So check those out if you get a chance.. I also called on the community for some submissions for a new format. Thanks to Tim and Robert for sharing your trail running quivers. I already have a few more for the next one.
Maybe a self-diagnosed “shoe intervention” is in order? I don’t think so! We all have shoe racks like this right? right??? Solid workout room, btw.
Check out my full review of the Salomon S/LAB Pulsar 4. Lots to like with this shoe - more range than previous iterations, but of course some will be disappointed that’s it’s not the same super lightweight speedster. My thoughts in this review and also in those “Best of” videos.
Shady Rays in for test! I also go over my full run kit during the S/LAB Pulsar 4 video - probably a gear roundup video on the way at some point! Always testing on the run!
Another full review - La Sportiva Prodigio Max. Also worked in a bit of A/B feeling out between this one and the highly-praised Pro model.
A tough act to follow for the Max, but it’s a different style of shoe. There are some similarities in fit and feel, but the overall ride is quite different. I can see it being a good fit for some runners though.
IN FOR TEST
A few shoes currently in the testing rotation..
On Cloudsurfer Trail 2 Waterproof - it’s a bit warm to be running these at the moment, so kind of holding off on these. Regular non-WP version should be arriving shortly.
norda 001A - see next section below
Topo Vista - lots of questions about this one, especially after the “Best Cushion” video. Literally just showed up at my doorstep, more to come!
BACK-TO-BACK MOUNTAIN LONG RUNS
Another trip up to the Sawtooths for some family & friends fun time.. plus more adventure runs!
Day 1 - 22.5 miles in the Kailas FUGA EX PRO - potential 100M race shoe? It’s definitely legit as it was on the feet of Cristian Minoggio - 2nd place at OCC!
Day 2 - 21 miles in the norda 001A
I’m splitting the 001A review into two parts and releasing them ahead of the EX PRO video. The reason is I couldn’t find my mini mic after the Kailas run and didn’t want to chance doing a 4 hour run/review with horrendous audio.
First up will be more of a virtual adventure run - this was really an incredible route and I think you’ll enjoy it. Maybe save it for a treadmill or indoor cycle session?
I’ll follow up with a standard “talking head” review, which will also give me a chance to sit down and compare the 001A closely against the 001 and other norda models.

RACING on the calendar!
I’ll be going, going.. back to Cali for the Mammoth Triple! Dragons Back Ascent (3 miles, 2,400 ft.), 50K (7,000 ft+), 26K (3,900 ft+) over 3 days of racing!
Yes, I’ll be running all 3 events. I’ve always wanted to do one of these stage-type events, why not GO BIG !?! Now the real question is - shoe choice ???

Hi,
It’s getting closer to cold weather running in some parts of the country. I would love to see a video on some of your favorite cold weather gear and how you view layering to stay warm. I struggle with what gear to buy and staying warm without overheating!
Thanks
