Check out my latest Q&A if you didn’t get a chance yet. These are really fun for me - I try to collect some comments for a few weeks, set up a loose outline, pile up some shoes and gear in front of me, and have at it!
You never know what will come up.. metal bra clips huh?!?! (this came from a subscriber comment!)
The Nike Terra Kiger 10 came in for test and I was able to rack up a quick 40 miles in them. The full writeup just posted on RoadTrailRun.
I really like this shoe, but more so for training rather than racing. I could see it being a great everyday trainer for many. It doesn’t hurt that it looks really great too. I also posted a short video with some on-the-run footage -
I got to take out the Erlkönig FXP poles for a test run. I don’t think I’ll use them this weekend at Heavens Gate - I need some more time to get used to them and I’m just more comfortable with my Leki poles at this point.
Speaking of racing - I placed 5th overall at Race to Robie Creek Half Marathon last Saturday out of about 1,900 runners. I did run in the PUMA DEVIATE Nitro Elite Trail -
I think they were a great pick, but I was actually the only one up front that wasn’t wearing road super shoes. The 8.7 miles of dirt was similar to that in the pic above - mostly smooth (but steep at times, especially the descent).
I battled it out with #2203 Joshua McAdams at the finish for 4th/5th but he got me at the line. He also ran Steeplechase at the 2008 Olympics.
Another A/B test video, La Sportiva Prodigo Pro vs. Hoka Tecton X - two top trail/ultra supershoes on the market right now. I really love both of these shoes and had no problems putting in a solid 13 miles with one shoe on each foot.
I also did a full wet test - full submersion, and weighed them out post-run. No vague impressions about “holding water”, just cold hard numbers on the scale!
I’ll be racing for the 3rd time at Heavens Gate in Riggins, Idaho next Saturday. Last year with RD Jeremy Humphrey and the 2nd place Pinata Llama prize-
Right now the shoe pick is The North Face Vectiv Sky 2, but the Prodigio Pros felt so good in that A/B test that I might go with them.
Maybe I can squeeze another A/B test this week?
