REAL Trail Racing in Idaho
how it was, before how it is now
HEAVENS GATE MOUNTAIN RUN (Riggins, Idaho). Race Director Jeremy Humphrey called the course “weird”. I’m so happy and lucky to be able to race events like this - not like the circus that most “bigger” trail races can tend to be..
Stunning spring scenery throughout the course.
I wore the Vectiv Sky 2’s from The North Face. They were yellow at the start of the race.
Seven Devils in the background under a beautiful blue sky.
I did take a few headers in the snow up high.
And unfortunately missed this turn around the 15 mile mark (I’m claiming I was mesmerized by the flowers). This added some miles and quite a bit of VERT to my day.
But hey, I got to cross the finish line twice! I ended up clocking 22.5 miles and 9,413 feet of vert. Should have been 19 miles and around 7,600 ft.
Zach Garner (in black, norda athlete) took the win. I actually hung tough and was 3:30 back at the 13.5M aid station before running off course.
My legs couldn’t handle the steep descents though - there’s always something to work on. Stay tuned for a full recap video on the channel including some stunning race scenery.
