The Norda 001A at that price is tempting, especially with the durabilty you mentioned. I've been looking for a trail shoe that can handle rocky terrain withot falling apart too quick. The Brooks Catamount 4 also sounds solid for racing. Do you find the roomy upper works well for longer ultras or does your foot tend to slosh arund in there?
I think it absolutely works well - the midfoot hold is excellent, kind of like a Topo where you're really locked in and secure. As far as the 001A - durability is definitely going to be a plus with that upper/midsole/outsole, and even the laces. They will definitely hold up longer than the average shoe. I've heard feedback/comments with runners getting some serious mileage out of them.
